CHIKKAMAGALURU: Traffic movement on the Sringeri-Mangaluru route has been blocked due to massive landslides caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds on National Highway 169 near Nemmaru village, in Sringeri taluk in the district.

Local authorities, police and villagers were working to clear the debris despite the continuous rain. The strong winds have also caused iron barriers along the road to collapse, and power poles have fallen due to the heavy rain and strong gusts of wind.

The incessant rainfall throughout the night has caused chaos in Sringeri, and the region has experienced continuous rain since January, increasing the moisture content in the soil. There are concerns about further landslides if the rainfall continues, and vehicle drivers are advised to take alternative routes.

The rainfall is expected to continue, and the region is at risk of more landslides, especially in the Chandradrona mountain range, where a small landslide occurred on Saturday near Kavikal Gandi. The constant rain in the mountain range has raised concerns among locals about potential disasters.
