HASSAN: Activists of the Sri Rama Sene intercepted a goods vehicle carrying animal parts illegally on the Bittagodanahalli bypass in Hassan city on Friday morning. The activists had received a tip-off and chased the vehicle from Holenarasipura.
The vehicle was found carrying around a ton of animal heads and skins. Upon inspection, it was revealed that the animals had been slaughtered, and their meat removed. The activists handed over the vehicle to the police.
“Illegal transport of slaughtered animals is rampant in these parts. When we tried to intercept the vehicle, they tried to ram us. We request the authorities to crack down on this” said, Dharmaraj, the district president of the Sri Rama Sene.
“A lot of cow slaugher is happening in Arasikere, Dudda, Holenarsipur, especially in Sakleshpur. We appeal to the district authorities to shut down the slaughterhouses. If no action is taken, we will attempt to shut down the slaughterhouses ourselves”, said another activist.
The Hassan city police have taken custody of the vehicle and taken up further investigation. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Hassan city police station.
