MANDYA: A paramedical student was brutally attacked by a youth at Mandya Medical College on Thursday evening for spurning his advances. He was later thrashed by the public.
Sampath Kumar, a resident of Y. Erahalli, was in love with Navya (20) of the same village for about two years. On coming to know about the relationship, Navya’s father Paramesh had advised her to concentrate on her studies following which she distanced herself from Sampath. However, he kept on pestering her.
A couple of days ago, Navya celebrated her birthday with her friends. On coming to know about this, an angry Sampath went to her house and created a ruckus. He even threatened to post their pictures on social media and make them viral. Navya’s father had chided him and sent him away.
On Thursday, Sampath lay in wait for Navya since morning. He had come on a scooter without registration plates and had brought a long wooden piece with him. After college hours in the evening, he suddenly attacked Navya with the wooden piece as she was coming out.
A bleeding Navya was rushed to hospital by a friend, where she had to undergo stitches on the head for injuries.
Members of the public caught Sampath and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. A case has been registered at the Mandya East police station.
