RAMANAGARA: A spurned lover stabbed a woman and later attempted suicide by slitting his throat in Channapatna on Tuesday. Both are now battling for life at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Mandya.
Meghana (28) and Venkatesh (29) were colleagues at a Sangeeta Mobiles showroom in Channapatna. Venkatesh had professed his love to Meghana on several occasions, but she had spurned him. About three months ago, she quit her job unable to tolerate his advances.
On Tuesday, Venkatesh, a resident of Ramanagara, landed at Meghana’s rented house on Fort area in Channapatna and stabbed her in the chest and stomach 4-5 times in a bid to kill her. He then cut himself in the stomach and slit his throat.
Both were immediately shifted to the General Hospital in Channapatna where they were administered first aid and shifted to MIMS in Mandya.
“He had been torturing Meghana from the time they were working together. She had refused and even threatened to lodge a complaint. She had attempted suicide in Bengaluru and was hospitalised. The police had advised us to lodge a complaint, but Venkatesh said he would not bother her anymore. Two days ago, he had come home saying he wanted to talk to her. He came again today and stabbed her and hurt himself with the same knife”, said Tharamma, Meghana’s mother.
The Channapatna police have registered a case.
