Thippanna Dokare was arrested for stalking a college-going girl

BELAGAVI: A spurned man, who threatened of killing a girl just like Neha Hiremath of Hubballi, for rejecting his advances, and throwing stones and rocks at her house has been arrested by the Belagavi Rural police. Security has also been provided at the girl’s house.

Thippanna Dokare (27), a resident of Kiney village who is a drunkard and unemployed, had been pursuing a girl from the same village who was studying BCom. He would stalk her when she would go to college and pester her to marry him. Fed up of his antics, the girl had stopped going to college.

The girl stays with her mother and Thippanna had also threatened the mother to get the daughter married to him. He had also warned that he would kill the girl just like Neha Hiremath of Hubballi. Recently, he also threw rocks and stones at the girl’s house, damaging the windows. Three months ago, he had even set fire to the rear door of the girl’s house.

The girls family had lodged a complaint with the police three years ago, but they had only warned him and let him off. Thippanna had laid low for some time and began harassing the girl again.

The scared family members of the girl approached the police on May 22 seeking protection following which a constable has been posted at her house on the directions of Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang.

The police commissioner said criminal cases have been filed against Thippanna and assured protection to the girl’s family. “The accused has been sent to judicial custody and security has been provided at the girl’s house in Kiney village. When she resumes college after the vacation, we will continue to provide security. We have spoken to the girl’s family and will extend all possible aid”, he added.
