MANDYA, MANGALURU: At least eight passengers were injured after a speeding KSRTC bus ripped through the fence on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, jumped to the service road and fell into a ditch near Tubinakere on Saturday afternoon. There were about 30 passengers in the bus and they were rescued by locals.
The seriously injured include the bus driver Shekhar, who suffered a fractured leg, conductor Ravichandra and passengers Deepak, Bhaskar, Abhi, Kushal and Nagaraju. It is said that the accident occurred as the driver lost control. All the injured were shifted to hospital by the police.
The speeding bus hit four two-wheelers and a car which were moving on the service road before it plunged into a ditch. Due to the impact, the motorcycle also fell into the ditch. The crash was recorded on CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile, a KSRTC Airavat bus and a Rajahamsa bus collided head-on at a curve on Bengaluru-Mangaluru NH-75 along Shiradi Ghat on Saturday, affecting traffic flow for several hours. A goods vehicle also fell into a roadside ditch in a bid to avoid the collision.
Some passengers of both buses sustained injuries in the accident. The buses were removed later and normal traffic was resumed.
