Speeding concrete mixer crushes SUV after overturning, kills woman, child

BENGALURU: A woman and her son, who were travelling in a SUV, were crushed to when a concrete mixer overturned on their vehicle at Byalamarada Doddi near Bannerghatta on Wednesday morning.

Gayathri Kumar (47) was on her way to drop off her 16-year-old daughter Samantha Kumar to Sherwood High school near Basavanapura when the incident occurred. The speeding concrete mixer, which was coming from Kanakapura Road side, overturned and crushed the Hyundai Venue SUV after the driver lost control at a bend.

Passers-by could not pull out the woman and her daughter trapped under the vehicle and alerted the police.
A total of four mobile cranes and an earth-moving vehicle were used to remove the bodies.

The victims are natives of Ballari. The deceased woman, an IT professional lived with her husband Sunil Kumar and their two children in an apartment in the city for the last 20 years.

The police have identified the truck’s owner and deployed various teams in the city in search of the truck driver and the owner. Further investigations are under way.

The truck rammed into another parked container truck near Attibele checkpost.

In another accident near Attibele, a truck coming from Hosur crashed into another parked truck near the toll gate. The front part of the truck was badly damaged and the Fire and Emergency Services personnel extricated the driver Nagaraj with great difficulty. As his legs were stuck in the crushed metal, the driver sustained serious injuries in both the legs. He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
