HUBBALLI: In a horrific crash in the wee hours of Sunday, a speeding SUV hit a two-wheeler, killing him on the spot. Shockingly, the driver, who is said to be the son of a well-known steel businessman, tried to switch places with another driver in an attempt to cover up his crime.

The two-wheeler rider was flung for about 100 metres even as the SUV continued to move on.

Ganesh Badigannavar, who was employed with a private firm, was returning home around 2.15 am on Sunday when a speeding SUV crashed into his two-wheeler near Siddeshwara Circle, killing him on the spot. The impact was such that Ganesh was flung for a distance of about 100 metres. It appears that he entered the main road from one of the cross roads when the accident occurred.

The car driver was caught on CCTV getting off his vehicle and collecting his belongings.

Ganesh was a resident of Banashankari Layout in Vidyanagar. The only son of his parents, he was looking after his mother ever since his father died.

The car driver is seen making good his escape from the spot.

The SUV driver, who was said to be returning from a party, continued driving for some distance and stopped his car further down the road, as seen in CCTV footage. He can also be seen collecting a bag from the vehicle and slipping away.

The Suv involved in the crash.

Surprisingly, the Hubballi North traffic police, who have registered a case, have mentioned the prime accused as the car driver, but not mentioned any name. This has given rise to suspicion that attempts are being made to shield the businessman’s son by showing someone else as the driver.
