MANGALURU: Kusumavathi, the mother of deceased Sowjanya, was denied a meeting with the special investigation team (SIT) that is investigating the alleged Dharmasthala mass burials case.

Kusumavathi had come to the Belthangady police station to file a complaint against Chinnaiah, who had turned from a witness to an accused in the case. The police stopped her from meeting the SIT, saying she didn’t have permission for the meeting.

Saujanyas mother KusumavathiKusumavathi didn’t get down from her car and left without speaking to the media. It is not clear why she was denied the meeting, but it’s reported that she wanted to complain about Chinnaiah after he made some shocking statements about Sowjanya’s murder on YouTube.

Home Minister G Parameshwara had earlier said that the SIT would only look into the burials case at Dharmasthala and not Sowjanya’s case. He had also said the SIT will entertain only those cases which are related to the alleged Dharmasthala mass burial case.

The reason for the police stopping her from meeting the SIT is not known, but it is being speculated that they might have had some specific instructions or concerns.

Kusumavathi had come to file a complaint to consider Chinnaiah as a witness after he had shared some explosive information regarding the Sowjanya murder on YouTube channels. It is worth noting that the SIT is investigating the Dharmasthala burials case and Chinnaiah’s role in it, but Sowjanya case is being handled separately.

With the situation turning complex, it’s not clear how it will all play out. For now, Kusumavathi has been denied a meeting with the SIT, and it remains to be seen what happens next.

Earlier, Home Minister G Parameshwara had stated that except for the Sowjanya case, people can file complaints with the SIT regarding cases that are suspicious. He had clarified that the SIT will investigate cases based on anonymous complainant’s claims when he announced the formation of the SIT on July 19.
