Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi visited the Mahadeshwara temple at Bheemanakolli on Wednesday.

BENGALURU: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, who is staying at a resort in the Kabini backwaters, on Wednesday visited Mahadeshwara temple at Bheemanakolli in HD Kote taluk.

Sonia Gandhi, who arrived in Mysuru on Monday. will join the Bharat Jodo Yatra, being led by her son Rahul Gandhi, on October 6.

The temple is believed to have a history of 500 years. Sonia Gandhi was briefed about the temple by Anusha, one of her aides. Local MLA Anil Chikkamadu was also present.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi also went on a safari ride on Wednesday morning.

The Congress leader visited the temple on account of Vijayadashami. Before returning to the resort, she waved to the huge crowds that had assembled at Bheemanakolli to catch a glimpse of her. Some locals also took selfies with her.
