MANGALURU: The special investigation team (SIT), which is carrying out exhumation near the Nethravathi forest in Dharmasthala in connection with the alleged mass burial case, on Monday found a skeleton belonging to a male, along with a rope and male clothing a little away from the 11th spot marked earlier.
The SIT had planned to carry out exhumation at the 11th and 12 marked points on Monday. However, after the team reached the 11th spot, the anonymous complainant took the team higher up a hill where the skeleton was found on the ground. It is suspected that the individual may have committed suicide about one-and-half years ago.
The anonymous complainant had claimed that he had buried the most number of bodies at points 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, but no human remains had been found at the eighth, ninth and tenth locations.
Earlier in the day, the SIT officials, along with Assistant Commissioner Stella Verghese, the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and Forest officials held a meeting at the SIT office in Belthangady. The three lawyer, who accompanied the anonymous complainat to the SIT office, requested the AC that he be allowed to identify more burial points. However, the AC rejected it and said only the 13 identified spots will be dug up.
