HASSAN: At least six vehicles including a gas tanker, a tipper truck, a container truck and two cars were stuck in the landslide that occurred on near Doddatappalu National Highway-75 at Shiradi Ghat on Tuesday due to incessant rain. Work on clearing the mud was restarted on Wednesday and traffic was allowed later in the day.
Through the night on Tuesday, hundreds of truckloads of earth was cleared from the highway, but traffic could not be resumed. Also, there is the fear of further landslides if the rains continue. Officials of the National Highways Authorities of India (NHAI) are camping at the spot and are overseeing the clearance work.
On Wednesday, the road was covered with sludge, but vehicles which was stuck overnight were allowed to pass through slowly. Thousands of vehicles had been stuck on the highway following the landslide.
