CHIKKAMAGALURU: Six people, including a two-year-old child, narrowly escaped death after the car they were traveling in fell into a 100-foot-deep gorge at Charmadi Ghat in Mudigere taluk in the district on Thursday night.

Miraculously, all five people escaped with minor injuries, but the two-year-old child suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Shivamogga.

The family from Shivamogga was on a trip to Dharmasthala. The incident occurred near Malayamarutha at Charmadi Ghat in Mudigere taluk, where the driver lost control of the vehicle. The injured are Shankar, Seethamma, Bhanupriya, Aaradhya, Harish and Shreyas.

Local social activist Arif rushed to the spot and helped shift the injured to an ambulance, which took them to the Mudigere hospital.

Locals alleged that there is no retaining wall or roadside barriers on the roadside, which led to the accident. A case has been registered at the Banakal police station.
