TUMAKURU: The death toll in Sunday’s head-on collision between two cars has risen to six with the death of the driver of one of the cars, identified as Anand (30). He was admitted to the district hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
On Sunday night, two cars collided head-on between Kataganahatti in Madhugiri taluk and Keregalapalya under Madhugiri police station limits. Janardhan Reddy (60), his daughter Sindhuja (32), her son Vedanth Reddy (8) of Yettinahalli village in Pavagada taluk and Nagaraju (30) and Siddaganga (27) of Karenahalli near Midigeshi in Madhugiri taluk had died in the accident.
Geetha (38), her son Kiran (14) and Sindhuja’s son Dev Reddy (14 months) and car driver Anand had been admitted to the district hospital. While Anand died, the other three are were shifted to a Bengaluru hospital for treatment.
While one car (Maruti Ciaz) with seven occupants was headed from Yettinahalli towards Bengaluru, The other (Tata Tiago) was headed towards Madhugiri from Bengaluru.
The accident occurred when one of the cars was trying to overtake another vehicle. A case has been registered at the Madhugiri police station.
On Monday, Home Minister G Parameshwara, ADGP (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar and IGP-Central Labhu Ram visited the accident spot. The minister directed the police to take steps to prevent accidents. On Sunday night, Tumakuru SP Ashok Venkat, Additional SP P Mariyappa and the Madhugiri Deputy SP had visited the spot.
