MANGALURU: Six people died and at least four others were injured in two separate accidents on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Saturday. While four died on the spot, two died in hospital.
In the first incident, a Toyota Innova car crashed into the NG Circle roundabout on B C Road in Bantwal late on Friday night. The car was travelling from Bengaluru to Udupi when it collided with the roundabout.
Three people, including Ravi (64), Ramya (23), and Nanjamma (75), all residents of Peenya in Bengaluru, died in the accident. Four others, including Keerthi, Susheela, Bindu, and Prashant, were seriously injured. The driver, Subramanya, and another person, Kiran, sustained minor injuries.
The occupants of the car were on their way to Udupi’s Sri Krishna Temple when the accident occurred. Ramya was reportedly the wife of a police officer. There were nine people in the car. The accident occurred due to the unscientific design of the circle, which was recently constructed as part of the B.C. Road-Addahole National Highway project. A case has been registered at the Bantwal traffic police station.
In another serial incident, on National Highway 66 near Panambur, three people died when a tanker hit an autorickshaw from behind. The autorickshaw had stopped behind another tanker, causing it to get crushed between the two tankers. The driver and two passengers of the autorickshaw died on the spot. The Mangaluru North traffic police visited the spot and have registered a case.
