BENGALURU: Unidentified individuals have dug up a 900-year-old temple in HSR Layout, allegedly in search of a treasure. The temple, located within an apartment complex, has been vandalised and the perpetrators have dup up a 5-feet deep hole near the basement parking area.
According to locals, the apartment owner, reportedly a builder from Andhra Pradesh, might be behind the incident. The temple was originally situated on the site, and the apartment complex was built around it. Locals claim that the accused had dug up the area behind the temple, specifically targetting the underground space, in a bid to unearth treasure.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who suspect that the perpetrators might have been trying to plunder the temple’s wealth. “They dug up the area and performed some kind of puja or ritual. They even covered the spot with a makeshift shed to avoid detection”, said a local resident.
When questioned, the apartment owner reportedly told locals that it was his land and he could do whatever he wanted with it. The police have been informed, and an investigation is under way. Locals claim that this isn’t the first time treasure hunters have targeted the temple, and they suspect that the same individuals might be behind the previous incidents.
