SIT conducts spot inspection of mass burial sites in Dharmasthala

BENGALURU: A Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up to probe the alleged mass burial case in Dharmasthala, has begun spot inspection on the banks of the Netravati river. The SIT, led by Superintendent Police C A Simon, brought the complainant to the location under tight police security.

  The complainant had stated during interrogation that the skulls were exhumed from near the Netravati bathing ghat area. The SIT, including officials from the Forensic, Revenue, Forest and Survey departments conducted a meeting before starting the spot inspection.

Based on the complainant’s statement, DGP Pronab Mohanty’s team will expedite the investigation.

The inspection is being carried out in the presence of SIT officials Jitendra Kumar Dayama and SP C A Simon, Forest Department Ranger Thyagaraj, and others. The SIT had interrogated the complainant for around 14 hours over the past two days, gathering crucial information.

The investigation will continue from the SIT office in Belthangady, and the team will verify the complainant’s statements. After the spot examination, the complainant may be produced before a judge and the alleged burial sites are likely to be inspected.
