MANGALURU: After the special investigation team (SIT) wound up its spot inspection (mahazar) where seven skulls and human remains were found in Banglegudda area of Dharmasthala, the police on Friday issued a notice to Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi to appear before the SIT for questioning on September 21. As he was not at home, the notice was stuck on his house in Ujire.
The SIT also questioned Dharmasthala gram panchayat vice-president Srinivasa Rao and former president and lawyer Keshav Gowda on Friday. Mahesh Shetty faces the prospect of arrest as he had given shelter to the masked complainant Chinnaiah and an air gun which had no permit had been found in his house during searches. A case has been registered in this connection at the Belthangady police station under the Arms Act.
The SIT has completed spot inspection in 13 acres at Banglegudde where seven skulls and human skeletal remains were found over two days and the spots have been marked. All were found at the surface level and some pieces of cloth and ropes were also found. They are being sent to the forensic lab for analysis.
Meanwhile, medical experts have said that all the seven skulls are that of males and one of them, found on Thursday, is most likely of B Ayyappa, a resident of Kodagu district.
