SHIVAMOGGA: Senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa on Monday made a controversial remark stating that those indulging in terror activities should either be shot or hanged. Only such firm action can act as a deterrence, he felt.
Speaking to reporters, he said blasts have become a routine affair and some people are not even scared to indulge in terrorist activists. It has become commonplace for members in a household to have links with anti-national groups.
“The parents and society at large have to nip this in the bud. Organisations indulging in anti-nationals activities should be identified. Leaders in the state and central government say strict action will be taken, but families of victims question us about the kind of action taken”, he noted.
“I urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to give a free hand to the police, just like given to the army, to shoot those who indulge in terrorist activities or hang them. A law should be brought in this regard”, he said.
Noting that the internal security situation is much better than what it was, he felt that more needs to be done. “We are not hear to keep reading lists of victims. If the government can convince anti-national elements to return to the mainstream, well and good. If not, the harshest action should be taken against them”, he said.
