BENGALURU: With the results of the May 10 Assembly elections trickling in even as counting of votes is in progress, the BJP was in for a major shock as many of its leader biting the dust.
Incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai won with a huge margin from Shiggaon while BJP minister B C Patil lost from Hirekerur. His colleague C C Patil (BJP) won from Nargund. Minister R Ashoka lost from Kanakapura while D K Shivakumar won by a huge margin of over one lakh votes despite campaigning only for a day. Ashoka however, won from Padmanabha Nagar constituency.
Among others, Laxmani Savadi, who switched to Congress, won in Athani while Mahesh Kumathalli of the BJP lost. The Congress’ Santosh Lad won from Kalaghatagi while Vinay Kulkarni won from Dharwad Rural, Satish Jarkiholi from Yamkanmaradi and Eshwar Khandre in Bhalki, Zameer Ahmed in Chamarajpet, K J George in Sarvajnanagar, Madhu Bangarappa in Soraba and Shamanur Shivashankarappa in Davanagere South and H C Mahadevappa wins in Nanjangud.
G Janardhana Reddy, who floated his own party KRPP, ahead of the elections, has won from Gangavati. The BJP new face Channabasappa won in Shivamogga while Ayanur Manjunath, who switched to Janata Dal (Secular) lost. The BJP’s M P Renukacharya has lost in Honnali while Dr C N Ashwath Narayan won from Malleswaram. Varthur Prakash also lost from Kolar. Dr K Sudhakar also bit the dust in Chikkaballapur.
