BALLARI: In view of the tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, security has been tightened at the Unesco World Heritage Site of Hampi. Operation Sindoor was conducted in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack on tourists in which 26 people were killed.
The police in Hampi are checking all vehicles entering and questioning every visitor. Four checkposts have been set up which are working round the clock. Patrolling has been increased and metal detectors have also been installed at various locations. The move follows directives by the Union and state governments.
“In view of the recent developments, security has been tightened at Hampi and Tungabhadra Dam, which are frequented by visitors, especially as the summer vacations are on. We are already seeing a rise in visistors on weekends and general holidays. Sniffer dogs have been deployed at TB Dam and a mock drill was also coducted”, said Vijayanagar Police Superintendent Srihari Babu.
