Security staff to check Metro trains after beggar’s video goes viral

BENGALURU: Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to deploy security staff to check Namma Metro trains after a physically challenged person was seen begging inside a Metro train on the Kengeri-Whitefield route on Saturday.

 

Following a report aired by Public TV, BMRCL officials have instructed security personnel to identify the person and hand him over to the police. Begging is a punishable offence under the law, and Metro rules also prohibit begging. The BMRCL officials are taking steps to nab the person in the video and hand him over to the police to prevent recurrene of such incidents on Metro trains.

Officials say if this issue is not addressed at the initial stage, the number of beggars in the Metro may increase, causing inconvenience to passengers.
