CHIKKABALLAPUR: Thousands of fish have died in the canal connecting the Kandavara and Amani Gopalakrishna lakes in the district which are fed with treated water from Bengaluru under the Hebbal-Nagawara Valley project.
The fish deaths are suspected to have been caused due to the presence of contaminants and heavy metals in the water released to the lakes from the water treatment plants.
Activists have pointed out that despite pleas for tertiary treatment of the water, it is being released after secondary stage treatment, which is being blamed as the cause of the fish death. They have also demanded that the authorities look into the issue and find a permanent solution to it.
