Second batch of Dasara elephants arrive in Mysuru

MYSURU: With the countdown for the world famous Dasara festivities having started, the second batch of elephants that will take part in the grand procession on Vijayadashami day arrived in the city on Monday.

The elephants were weighed in on Tuesday at a weigh bridge on Dhanvanthri Road. The elephants Srikanta tipped the scales at 5,540 kg while Sugreeva weighed 5,545 kg, Roopa 3,320 kg, Gopi 4,990 kg and Hemavathi 2440 kg.

The elephants will be fed nutritious food during their stay and will practice walking from the Mysuru palace up to the Bannimantap grounds twice a day. This is to acclimatise them with the city noises so that they do not feel disturbed on the day of the procession.

Among the first batch of elephants which arrived in Mysuru on August 4, Abhimanyu tipped the scales at 5,360 kg, Dhananjaya at 5,310 kg, Cauvery 3,010 kg, Lakshmi 3,730 kg, Bheema 5,465 kg, Ekalavya 5,305 kg, Mahendra 5,120 kg, Kanjan 4,880 kg and Prashant 5,110 kg.
