Savadi gets Athani Congress ticket, Siddaramaiah won’t be contesting from Kolar

BENGALURU: A day after he joined the Congress over being denied a ticket by the BJP to contest from Athani, the party has announced Laxman Savadi as its candidate from the Assembly segment.

Also, putting to rest all speculation about Opposition leader Siddaramaiah contesting from Kolar, the party has announced Kothanur G Manjunath as its candidate.

In the third list of 43 candidates announced by the Congress on Saturday, actor-politician Umashree has been dropped from Terdal and instead Siddappa Ramappa Konnur has been picked. The list also makes no mention of Pulakeshi Nagar in Bengaluru where Akhanda Srinivas Murthy is the incumbent MLA.

The party has also announced R V Devaraj as its candidate from Chickpet in Bengaluru while Nayana Jyothi Jhawar is the candidate from Mudigere-SC constituency. On the first day of filing nomination, former Bengaluru mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun had filed two sets of nomination papers in the hope that she will be named the party candidate.

In Shikaripur, G B Malatesh will take on state BJP vice-president B Y Vijayendra while D G Shantanagouda will contest against BJP’s M P Renukacharya in Honnali.
