BALLARI, KOPPAL: A 21-year-old youth, who was riding on a coracle along with his friends in the Narihalla dam water in Sandur taluk, died after it overturned. The deceased was identified as Nagaraj of Vaddu village.
The youths had gone for a swim in the dam water and later, they took a coracle for a ride to the middle of the river when Nagaraj got into the water. However, the coracle suddenly collapsed and Nagaraj was not able to free himself and died.
Two of Nagaraj’s friends who were with him managed to swim to safety. The Fire and Emergency Services personnel fished out the body after a long search. A case has been registered at the Toranagal police station.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Koppal district, the Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with the police, JSW rescuers and locals, retrieved the body of Dr Ananya Rao (26), hailing from Hyderabad from the Tungabhadra river on Thursday. The body was found stuck between rocks.
Ananya and her friends had checked into a resort and, on Wednesday, she had dived into the river near Sanapura in Gangavathi taluk while her friends were shooting videos. In some of the videos, she can be seen surfacing to the water, but had later disappeared.
After almost two days of search, the body of Ananya was found 400 metres away from where she had dived into the river. Her family members were also at the spot when the body was recovered.
