RTPC contract staffer climbs chimney, demands revoking of termination order

RAICHUR: A contract employee of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) threatened the authorities of committing suicide by climbing up a chimney of the thermal power plant in the district on Monday, demanding revoking of the termination order and re-posting of him.

The other employees of Raichur thermal plant also joined in the protest, held at the Station in Shakti Nagar in the district.

Suresh was a contract employee at the power station for 10 years. He  staged protest by sitting on the chimney of Unit-8 power station and threatened the management with committing suicide over termination of his contract.

Earlier, he had fought with authorities to demand an increase in salary and had alleged that there is corruption at the power station. His contract with RTPS was terminated just two months ago.

Following Suresh’s protest, other RTPS employees too started demanding regular payment of salaries. The protesters also shouted at the power station authorities. They tried to break the gate, but the security guards stopped them from going out.
