BENGALURU: After the bike taxi ban in Bengaluru, autorickshaw drivers have been accused of charging double the fare from passengers. Due to the increasing number of complaints, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched a crackdown against auto drivers.

Over the past week, RTO officials have formed 20 teams and conducted checks across the city, covering 11 RTO office jurisdictions. During this, they inspected 3,531 autos and registered cases against 1,006 vehicles for various offenses, including lack of permit, overcharging, insurance and document-related issues. A total of 233 autos were seized.

The majority of the seized autos were those operating on app-based services. The RTO has taken action against autos operating on various apps, including Ola, Uber, Rapido and Namma Yatri.

The RTO has warned that it will continue to take strict action against auto drivers who overcharge passengers or operate without necessary documents.
