RTO inspector caught by citizens after taking Rs 10,000 bribe from trucker, forced to return money

BALLARI: Alert citizens caught a Regional Transport Office brake inspector taking a bribe from a truck driver near the Halakundi Math in the taluk and forced him to return the amount through online payment, in the wee hours on Tuesday.

RTO Inspector Hemanth and his jeep driver Nagaraj had stopped Vadde Nagaraj, truck driver from Adoni in Andhra Pradesh, and took Rs 10,200 as bribe from him for allegedly overloading the vehicle. Hemanth got the driver to transfer the money online to his associate Madhusudhan S.

However, members of an association caught the RTO inspector red-handed and got the driver Nagaraj to call Madhusudhan and return the money the truck driver Vadde Nagaraj. The RTO official, who did not get off the jeep, told the citizens that he would be retiring soon and let him go. The citizens have called for strict action against corrupt officials.
