BELAGAVI: A brutal attack on RSS functionary Dattatreya Thoravat has sparked tensions in Sankeshwar town in Hukkeri taluk. Thoravat, a current RSS taluk leader, was attacked by a group of people, allegedly led by former RSS taluk leader Sameer Patil’s supporters.

The attack is believed to be a result of internal power struggles within the RSS unit, with Sameer Patil’s supporters unhappy about Thoravat’s appointment as the new taluk leader. The incident has led to a tense atmosphere, with rumours spreading that the attack was carried out by people from another caste.

Police have deployed heavy security in the area and formed a special team to investigate the case. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was a result of personal rivalry, and seven people, including Sameer Patil, have been arrested.

“Dattatreya and his friend were leaving from a kalyan mantap on a two-wheeler when a group of men, who came in a car, attacked them on February 23. Dattatreya sustained injuries in the neck and head and we have arrested seven of the accused. Two more accused will be nabbed soon”, said Police Superintendent, Ramarajan K.

Thoravat is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The police are working to maintain law and order in the area, and the situation is under control.
