HASSAN: At a time when price of tomatoes has shot up all over the country, thieves stolen more than Rs 1.5 lakh worth of tomatoes from the crop land. This incident took place at Goni Somanahalli village in Belur taluk.
Farmer Dharani had grown tomatoes on his farm. He had been harvesting and selling the tomatoes for the past three days as he had got a good yield well and the prices of tomatoes reached over Rs 120 per kg.
However, some thieves came to his farm on Tuesday night and stole 50 to 60 bags of tomatoes that were kept ready to be sold. The theft came to light when Dharani went to his farm this morning.
Dharani has lodged a complaint with Halebeedu police about the theft. Police visited the site and further investigation is under way.
