BENGALURU: In an early morning shootout, the Seshadripuram police shot at a notorious robber when he was trying to flee after attacking a police team which had gone to arrest him, with a sharp weapon.
Yasir Rehman (26), a resident of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar in Sultanpalya was wanted in more than seven cases of armed robbery. In just one week, he had targeted five people and robbed them.
On Tuesday morning, when a team from the Seshadripuram police station had gone to arrest him, Yasir tried to flee. When the police tried to nab him on Palace Road, he attacked constable Keshavamurthy, causing injury on his arm. Police Inspector Hemanth Kumar then shot at Yasir in his right leg in self defence.
Yasir Rehman had got into robbery from the time he was a minor. He would target lone individuals in the early hours, pull out a knife and rob them of their mobile phones. On Tuesday, he had attempted to rob a person in Seshadripuram police limits following which a police team set out to nab him. The police have recovered six mobile phone from the accused and arrested him.
