Revised fares for Namma Metro to come into effect from February 9

BENGALURU: After putting off the fare hike, which was to come into effect from February 1, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation on Saturday announced that its fare fixation committee has come up with a revised fare structure. The new fares will come into effect from Sunday, February 9 itself.

As per the revised fare structure, 10 fare zones have been created based on distance and the fares will vary according. As per the tariff structure, the fare will be Rs 10 for 0-2 km, Rs 20 for 2-4 km, Rs 30 for 4-6 km, Rs 40 for 6-8 km, Rs 50 for 8-10 km, Rs 60 for 10-15 km, Rs 70 for 15-20 km, Rs 80 for 20-25 km, Rs 90 for 25-30 and above.

Apart fromt this, the existing 5 per cent discount on smart cards will be retained while and additional 5 per cent discount on smart cards (5 pc peak hour + 5 pc off peak hour) will be given for travel during off-peak hour based on the time of entry into the Metro system. The off-peak hours are from 8 am, 12 pm to 4 pm, and from 9 pm to closing hours on weekdays.

Discount of 10 per cent will also be given on smart cards on all Sundays and national holidays (January 26, August 15, October 02) uniformly throughout the day. A minimum balance of Rs 90 should be maintained in the smart cards, a BMRCL press release said.

Tourist card fares (day passes) and group ticket prices have also been revised. The revised fare is Rs 300 for one day for groups varying from 25 to 99 with 15 per cent discount on applicable fare for entering the same station and exiting from same station all together. There will be no discount on flat fare/person for entering from different stations and exiting at the same station or entering from same stations and exiting at different stations.

The revised fare for three-day validity will be Rs 600 for group size of 100 to 1,000 with 20 per cent discount on applicable fare for entering the same station and exiting from same station all together, and Rs 60 discount on flat fare/person for entering from different stations and exiting at the same station or entering from same stations and exiting at different stations.

The revised fare for five days is Rs 800 for groups of above 1,000 persons with 25 per cent discount on applicable fare for entering the same station and exiting from same station all together and Rs 50 discount on flat fare/person for entering from different stations and exit at the same station OR enter from same stations and exit at different stations, the release added.
