BELAGAVI: A retired teacher was allegedly assaulted by the police sub-inspector at the Sureban outpost police station in Ramdurg taluk. He is now undergoing treatment at the taluk hospital in Ramdurg.

Shivamurthy Eligar, a resident of Shivapet, was allegedly attacked by a group of 4-5 people when he objected to them running an irrigation pumpset illegally. “I had called the emergency number 112 and the police later took me to the police station and received a complaint from me”, he said from the hospital bed.

“Even after 4-5 days, when no action was taken, I called up the circle police inspector at Ramdurg and inquire about my complaint and I was directed to visit the Sureban police outpost. There, PSI S H Pawar abused me for approaching his senior, assaulted and even threatened to extern me from the district”, Shivamurty said.

A medico-legal case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
