BENGALURU: Retired Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Om Prakash, a 1981-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Karnataka, was found murdered at his residence in HSR Layout, the city police confirmed on Sunday.

According to a brief statement issued by the police, “Retired DGP Om Prakash, 1981 batch IPS officer from Karnataka, has been murdered. The murder took place at a residence in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. The exact reason for the incident is not yet known”.

Police officials reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident. No arrest has been made in connection with the case at this time. The motive behind the killing remains unknown. The body was shifted to St John’s Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Vikas Kumar said, “Around 4-4:30 pm today, we got information about the death of our former DG&IGP Om Prakash. His son has been contacted and he is giving a complaint against the incident, and based on that, an FIR will be registered. After the case is registered, a detailed investigation will be carried out. As of now, there have been no arrests made. Initial investigation suggests that things might be internal in nature. It seems that some sharp weapon has been used, which caused so much blood loss that it led to death”.
