‘Restoration work under way…’: North Eastern Railways after Gonda train derailment

GONDA (Uttar Pradesh): North Eastern Railways general manager Saumya Mathur on Friday said that track restoration work is under way, adding that within a few hours, the upline will be restored.

“The restoration work is under way. The checking process is being done and within some hours, the upline will be restored. On the second line, you are seeing that the work is under way. We are working to ensure that the entire section gets restored by this evening”, Mathur said.

When asked about the inquiry, she said, “The railway does one of its inquiries after each incident. One inquiry will also be done by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Let the inquiry be done, and only then we can say anything”.

Project Director of the Relief Commissioner Office, Aditi Umrao, said that the relief work in the Gonda train accident is being done on a war-footing and teams of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) have been deployed.

According to the Railways, Train No. 04260 Ayodhya Dham-Mankapur special train running from Ayodhya Dham on July 19, 04257 Mankapur-Ayodhya Dham special train running from Mankapur on July 19, 04258 Ayodhya Dham-Mankapur special train running from Ayodhya Dham on July 19, and Train No. 04241 Mankapur-Ayodhya Dham special train running from Mankapur on July 19, 2024 are cancelled.

At least three people have died and around 30 were injured after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express derailed near Gonda station in between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway station under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Railway. As many as 4-5 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train from the front got derailed.

After getting the information, the medical team, along with senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER, immediately rushed to the site. In addition to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry, a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the rail derailment accident. (ANI)
