BENGALURU: Residents of Obalesh Colony in Jagjivan Ram Nagar in the city have been getting contaminated and smelly water for over six months, but the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) authorities seem to have turned a blind eye.

Residents say sewage water is getting mixed with drinking water due to damaged pipelines. Only after letting out water from taps for an hour or two, they get water which does not smell, they claim. Though several complaints have been made to the BWSSB officials, nothing has been done, they say.

Floating impurities and smell in the water forces residents to let it out for about two hours before collecting it.

“We have been getting smelly, dirty water for the last six months, it smells of drainage. We let out water for about two hours before we can collect water for domestic use. Despite complaints to BWSSB, they have done nothing so far. We get drinking water some elsewhere”, said Divya, a resident of the colony.

Divya and Lakshminarasimha, residents of Obalesh Colony.

Another resident, Lakshminarasimha, said, “We have been facing this problem for many months. Sewage water is getting mixed with piped water and the drainage chambers are not alright. The BWSSB officials come here when we complain, but do nothing. We let out water for an hour and then collect it for domestic use. Some people boil the water and use it for drinking purposes”.
