BENGALURU: Ironical as it may seem, tesidents of Nanjambha Agrahara in Chamarajpet, close to the Kempambudhi lake built by the city’s founder Kempe Gowda, are facing a water crisis. And this summer, this situation has only gotten worse as there is no water in the lake and borewells have also dried up.

The residents get Cauvery water only twice a week for about an hour. They complained that all their pleas to officials have fallen on deaf ears.

“We don’t know whom to tell about our problems. How can people in the city bear with this water shortage? Sometimes we do not get water for the whole day, and when we do, it’s only for an hour. The entire day goes waste waiting for water. We have to pay for tankers from our pocket”, they lamented.

The residents say that they have not seen the free water tanker supply from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

A woman said, “We are getting water just for an hour. No one came here to inquire about our situation. We did not see local BJP MP P C Mohan here so far, we have never saw him in public. He won three times from Bangalore Central, but we have never seen him even once”.

Another woman said, “We have seen drought-like situations during the summer, and now we are facing an acute shortage of water. We have wait for long hours setting aside other work”.

Another resident said, “We are buying tanker water as corporation officials are not arranging for water supply”. An elderly woman said, “We get water at 5 am, but that is not enough for household work. What do elderly people like us do without water? We are just managing with the available water these days”.
