Remains of two elephants found in BRT tiger reserve

One of the elephants is suspected to have died 7-8 months ago.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Forest Department officials have found a skeleton of an elephant and another partially decomposed carcass of another elephant in the BRT tiger reserve in Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Hills.

The remains of the elephants were found in the Byloor and Yelandur forest ranges of the tiger reserve. However, the tusks have remained intact. Following the discovery of the remains, questions are being raised over the method of patrolling by the Forest Department.

Another elephant is suspected to have died about 20 days ago.

It is suspected that the elephant found in Byloor range may have died 7-8 months ago while the one found in Yelandur range could have died about 20 days ago.
