BENGALURU: With the Karnataka Assembly elections round the corner and the election Code of Conduct in force, BJP leaders are now alleging that the local administration in some districts are issuing unusual orders.
Recently, the Madikeri district administration banned the distribution of prasadam at three temples. This, the BJP leaders said, hurts the sentiments of Hindus and their religious practices. Some of the BJP leaders have now approached the Election Commission seeking withdrawal of the order.
BJP general secretary Siddaraju said making offerings to God and distributing prasadam is a custom in Hindu culture. “The Madikeri Deputy Commissioner has banned distribution of prasadam for devotees in three temples in the district, terming it a violation of the Code of Conduct. The Election Commission has assured us that they will talk to the Madikeri DC regarding the distribution of prasadam. The commission also clarified that there are no such rules and distribution of prasadam in all temples is a daily routine”, he added.
