BENGALURU: In most cases where Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses are involved in collision with other vehicles; the drivers refuse to admit their mistakes or their reckless driving. They also suggest to checking CCTV footage claiming that the accident was not their fault.

But a reality check reveals that BMTC bus drivers’ reckless driving puts other road users’ lives at risk. Some bus drivers do not follow traffic rules, including speeding and jumping signals. They drive dangerously on the city roads without flashing indicators or giving way to other vehicles.

Based on several public complaints, Public TV conducted a reality check on BMTC drivers following traffic rules and indulging in reckless driving. The reality check was conducted at Corporation Circle, Guttahalli, Cauvery Junction, Anand Rao Circle, KR Circle, Circle Maramma Road, Yelahanka and Yeshwantpur Circle.

Some drivers even use their mobile phones while driving. Commuters say are scared to ride on the roads with BMTC buses plying dangerously. Citizens have demanded that BMTC drivers follow road discipline and drive responsibly to prevent further accidents. As it was observed, two-wheeler rider move forward thinking the road is empty, but then the BMTC drivers suddenly rush towards the middle of the road just to pass the signal without considering the safety of other vehicles. They don’t even flash indicators at that time.

Sometimes, bus drivers get into arguments with other vehicle drivers by stopping the bus in the middle of the road when they question their rash driving. Due to this, bus passengers in the bus are also left annoyed. Despite training the bus drivers about discipline and driving, the BMTC has failed to control reckless driving, many pointed out.

Motorists and pedestrians noted that it is necessary for BMTC to impart proper training in order to prevent innocent people from becoming victims of rash driving.
