BENGALURU: The Transport Department’s offer of a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines has received a significant response, with over Rs 100 crore in fines collected in just 21 days.

The discount scheme, which was announced on August 23, allowed vehicle owners to pay their fines through various platforms such as the online, KSP app, BTP Astra app, KarnatakaOne, and BangaloreOne websites. Vehicle owners were allowed to pay fines at a discount of 50 per cent.

The discount scheme has seen a significant response, with over 30 lakh cases resolved and Rs 100 crore in fines collected. The online payment platforms have made it convenient for vehicle owners to pay their fines with a 50 per cent discount.

The Transport Department is considering extending the discount scheme after discussing it with the police department and other stakeholders. However, there are concerns that frequent discounts may encourage vehicle owners to delay paying their fines, even with discounts.

The Transport Department’s initiative has been successful in collecting fines and resolving cases, and the department is now weighing its options for future discount schemes.
