MANDYA: With the Cauvery river swelling due to continuous rain, the famed Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is now completely flooded and all tourist activities have been stopped.
Following incessant rain in the catchment area, the KRS dam has almost reached its full capacity and the outflow has been increased to 50,573 cusecs. The nearly 40 islands in Ranganathittu are almost submerged, making it difficult for the avian population which is finding to save their nests, eggs and young ones.
Due to the strong currents, boating activity has been stopped since Sunday and there is no tourist footfall.
At Balamuri, a tourist spot, warning boards have been placed warning against venturing near the water. The popular pilgrim site, the Nimishamba temple, Sangam, Gosai Ghat, etc., are also witnessing rising water levels.
