KALABURAGI, SHIVAMOGGA: The accused who planted the improvised explosive devise (IED) at The Rameshwaram Cafe, which left nine injured, Mussavir Hussain Shazib, had forged the Aadhaar card of a Kalaburagi youth while checking into a hotel in Kolkata before he was caught.

Shazib had faked the Aadhaar card of Anmol Kulkarni, a resident of Vardhan Nagar in Kalaburagi and had used it during his stay in different hotels. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had even conducted week-long searches for the terror suspect in Kalaburagi recently.

A Kalaburagi youth’s Aadhaar card was forged by the accused.

Anmol has been living for the last few years in Bengaluru, but how Shazib could manage to fake his Aadhaar card is still not known.

Vardhan Nagar in Kalaburagi from where Anmol Kulkarni hails.

Shazib hails from a middle-class family from Thirthahalli and had lost his father a few years ago. He was living with his mother and borthers and would not mix with others including neighbours and would be fixed to his phone, it is said.

On the other hand, Abdul Mateen Taha did his early schooling in Thirthahalli and completed his engineering degree course in Bengaluru. His father Mansoor had served in the Indian Army for 22 years and had died last year. Mateen is believed to have come in contact with terror groups when he was in Bengaluru.

He was involved in several cases including the Mangaluru graffiti case, the Rameshwaram Cafe blast, the Mangaluru cooker blast, the trial blast on the banks of the Tunga river and had been absconding for a few years now. He had created fake identities for several other terror suspects and had been in touch with Shazib and Mohammed Shariq, the accused in the Mangaluru cooker blast case.
