Rain brings relief to Bengaluru from sweltering heat

Several parts of Bengaluru received rain on Thursday evening after a gap of five months.

BENGALURU: Thursday evening’s rain brought the much-needed relief for Bengaluru which was reeling under the sweltering heat. After a long gap of five months, many parts of the city received rainfall with citizens rejoicing.

Over the last two days, the city had been witnessing high temperature in the range of 36-38 degrees Celsius. On Friday evening, dark clouds could be seen on the city’s skyline and late in the evening, several parts received good rain while some parts recorded a short spell of drizzle.

Central parts of the city including Halasur, MG Road, Cubbon Park, Gandhi Nagar, Majestic and surround areas, Mysuru Road, Hebbal, Bapuji Nagar, Banashankari, JP Nagar, Jayanagar, Lalbagh and surrounding areas, Vijayanagar, Rajajinanagar, Yeshwantpur, Whitefield, KR Pura, Banaswadi, Kudlu Gate, Yelahanka witnessed good rain.

Vidyapeetha ward in the city recorded 20 mm of rain while Hampi Nagar ward registered 12.5 mm and Maruti Mandir ward 12 mm of rain on Thursday evening. Tree falls were also recorded at some places in the city.

In Srinagara, a huge branch of a tree fell on to the road on Thursday night following the rain, damaging three electricty pole too. One car was also completely damaged. The BBMP and Bescom workers cleared the fallen branches on Friday morning.
