YADGIR: Residents of Kiradalli tanda in Surpur taluk are being forced to consume arsenic-laced water for the last three months ever since the reverse osmosis (RO) water purification unit was shut. The residents face the danger of contracting health issues due to consumption of contaminated water.
The water purification unit has remained shut for the last three months with repairs not being carried out. The tanda is being supplied water from a borewell, but residents say it is laced with arsenic and have demanded clean drinking water.
Twelve years ago, the government had installed water purification units in 19 villages where groundwater is contaminated with arsenic. This ensured supply of clean drinking water to the villages. But with the one at Kiradalli remaining nonfunctional for the last three months, the residents have demanded that immediate repairs be taken up to ensure supply of clean drinking water.
