BENGALURU: In a major development, students of Classes 9 and 11 (or PUC I) in aided and unaided schools and colleges following state syllabus, will have public exams from the 2023-24 academic year. The exams will be conducted by the Karnataka School Examination & Assessment Board.
An official notification said the annual exams will be conducted at the school/college level and the question papers prepared by the Karnataka School Examination & Assessment Board will be sent to the login IDs of block education officers (BEOs) and deputy directors of public instruction. The Board will bear the cost of conducting the examinations.
For the Class 9 summative assessment (SA-2), teachers from a nearby school will be appointed as invigilators while for Class 11 examination, the lecturers of the college itself will be the invigilators. While the Class 9 answer papers will be evaluated at the taluk level, the Class 11 answer scripts will be evaluated at the college level.
After the evaluation of answer scripts, the head teachers or principals will upload the results on the SATS online platform. The results of the Class 9 exams will be revealed to the individual student and parents.
Three annual exams for Classes 10, 12
In another major development, the government has decided to conduct annual examination 1, 2 and 3 for Class 10 and PUC II students instead of the annual exam and supplementary exam. Also, students will be given the choice to retain the highest marks they have scored in any of the exams.

After the exams, the marks will be uploaded on the National Academic Depository (NAD). The present system of conducting supplementary exams will also continue, the notification said.
