HASSAN, KOLAR: A family was attacked with sharp weapons while a widow was manhandled by her brothers-in-law over property disputes in separate cases in the state.
At Vaddarahalli village in Arkalgud taluk of Hassan district, five people who were travelling in a car to attend the Jana Spandana programme of Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda were waylaid and attacked by a group of 18 people with swords, sticks and machetes in Konanur police station limits on Saturday. The attack was captured on a mobile phone.
The injured Ningarajamma, her son Vitthal, Rajashekar and two others have been admitted to hospital where Rajashekar’s condition is said to be critical. The Konanur police visited the spot and have registered a case.
Ningarajamma owned 3 acres and 19 guntas of land, but even though she’s alive, her brother’s sons had secured a fake death certificate and encroached upon 19 guntas. Her son Vitthal had lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta regarding this. The attack was carried out when the family was heading in a car for the minister’s programme to seek resolution of the dispute.
In another case, a widow was manhandled by two of her brothers-in-law over a property dispute at Pura village in Malur taluk of Kolar district. One of them has been taken into custody by the Malur police.
Shantha had lost her husband and was demanding his share of the 20 guntas of land at Varthur in Bengaluru. However, Subramani and Shivaraj manhandled and assaulted her. She has since been admitted to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
