Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the area till March 10.

CHIKKAMAGALUR: A day after Jamia Masjid committee members demolished a house and hotel near the Bada Makan dargah on land claimed by the Nallur Math, prohibitory orders have been imposed under BNS Sec 163 till March 10. The prohibitory orders were issued by Tahsildar Sumanth to prevent any possible communal flare-up.

The disputed site is at Hanumanthappa Circle in the heart of the town. Two FIRs have been registered against 14 people at the Basavanahalli police station for carrying out the demolition unauthorisedly. BJP activists and Hindu groups had strongly opposed the demolition.

Except for the Bada Makan dargah, assembly of five or more people is not allowed in the area till March 10, carrying and use of arms is prohibited. Three KSRP platoons have been stationed in the area to prevent any untoward incident and the police are on high alert across the town.
