Prohibitory orders extended for two days in Surpur constituency after stone pelting incident

YADAGIR: Prohibitory orders imposed in Surpur constituency have been extended for two days after stone-pelting and clashes broke out between Congress and BJP workers in Kodekal on April 6.

Earlier, after stone pelting, District Collector Snehal R had ordered imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of IPC until April 8, which has been extended until 8 pm on April 10. A few days ago, BJP MLA Rajugowda Swagram was attacked with weapons and there was stone pelting in Kodekal. At that time, 4-5 people were seriously injured in the stone-pelting between Congress and BJP workers.

Five cases have already been registered in connection with the incident and 25 people have been arrested. The prohibitory orders have been extended to maintain peace and order in the area and to trace the remaining accused.

Over the last 15 years, MLA Raju Gowda and former MLA Raja Venkatappa Nayak have shared a rivalry in Surpur Assembly constituency. During every election, there is trouble.

The latest clash occurred when Congress party workers were passing by the fair of Basavanna Devaru in the village in their vehicles. The situation took a turn after BJP workers asked Congress workers not to honk and there was verbal duel that led to stone-pelting in which people were injured and some of the vehicles were damaged.
